The day today started with James and I heading up to Migyur Dorje. Given our late start time, we opted to work on some thin set repairs. Once we got up on the bumpa and began to assess the situation, however, we found ourselves in a whole new situation. One method used to find "soft" spots in the concrete, areas where material is loose, is to tap it. Here James taps the gau. We did this all over the gau, and found there are several large areas of "weakness", where air pockets can be felt, and heard, in the concrete. We're talking hollow sounding! A Stupa Repair Dude's nightmare...The reality is we'll have to take down all the concrete that is not solid, period. Even if it is extensive. We want these structures to last, and allowing such weak points to remain even if they aren't overtly visible just doesn't seem acceptable. Fortunately, Lisa showed up, so we could share our "find" with her... : )
