October 1st...Conquering fears....

We started working on repairs today. No water for stripping, but that's okay. The repairs need to be done anyway...and as it turns out, we have more to do than we thought! What else is new!

I started working on the top of the gau, the whole peak of the gau is cracked and crumbling. In order to repair such damage we're using the M90 repair material. So the first step is grinding out loose material, and forming "shoulders" or a seat for the repair. Unlike drywall putty, the M90 is a kind of concrete itself, so it is designed to fit in an area, rather than stick to it. It needs some area to bond to, to prevent it from popping off. This is the first section ground out, before applying the repair material.

Lisa Banana, our resident artist, agreed to the job of "taking down" the repair. Once ground out like this, repair material is overbuilt into the site. Then it's allowed to cure for a few hours, after which it is dry enough and stiff enough to be gently shaped...that's the part Lisa is great for! You can see the overbuilt repair material in later shots (forgot to take one when I did it), when Lisa is removing the excess... Posted by Picasa
