The truck arrived around 10:30 am delivering the equipment. To sum up the day (SEE PHOTOS BELOW for more details) we all agree that sandblasting is the way to go. We also recognize it will take longer than we thought initially, but so does everything. : )
Ashby was onsite early to support Norbu, taking time off from his art work. Chuck also showed up unexpectedly (the work guys he was expecting at his house didn't show, so we had the good fortune to have his knowledge and enthusiasm on board today!) It took a while for everyone to figure out the basics, like, how does the sand get in there? By days end though, a working method had been worked out. Wheel barrels and buckets are much easier on the back than 100 lb bags.
The end result is better seen than described, so I'll let you look for yourself. We're all very excited, this is a dream coming true. The tenacity of the latex paint was nothing compared to the rock solid presence of that stucco. We could at least get the paint off...
I think it safe to say I speak for the whole Stupa team when I say it is our sincere aspiration that by removing this hardened, concrete like coating from the Stupa we are able to remove the hardened, concrete like obscurations that imprison the minds of all sentient beings. That as we restore the Stupa, the Enlightened Mind in form, to it's natural state, may we also be clearing the obscurations of the whole sangha, and all beings wandering in confusion. May we and all sentient beings, each and every one, be restored to our natural state...
