This Stupa wil require the most repair work. This is an old photo, from last week, but it still looks like this. We're trying to get up the nerve to "completely remove the loose material". We've been using the mortars for a few days now, and are gaining confidence. However, with this one Stupa (by far the worst, we don't know why), a large portion of the bumpa (vase, or dome like shape behind the gau-where the Buddha sits) is covered with tiny cracks. The scary part is, it seems like a lot of it is loose material. Today we did start the repair, and it wasn't so bad. I forgot my camera, so can't show you, but the crumbling effect was superficial, no more than 1/2 inch deep. We're going to repair it in stages. I'll take photos Sunday (Norbu might tomorrow, if he remembers his camera--I forgot mine today).
